MORE than 70 people met at Cold Knap beach, in Barry, for a clean-up, organised by Dow for employees and their families and friends.

The event saw more than 130 pounds of litter and waste removed from the beach in the space of three hours on Wednesday, July 31.

The event is part of Dow’s #PullingOurWeight Clean-up Initiative with Ocean Conservancy, which promotes the need to be more responsible with the environment when it comes to rubbish and litter.

Volunteers from Dow Barry site partners MSS Waste Management were also on hand to sort and remove the waste collected for recycling, while Just Perfect Catering were on hand to feed the hungry beach-cleaners.

Dow Barry site leader, Eduardo Gadea said: “The event on Wednesday is a highlight of the summer for us.

"A bit of effort, some great company, and the lovely weather made it a fun as well as productive event.”

“But on a more serious note, research from the UN estimates that only nine per cent of plastic is recycled, making it really important for communities to get together to make a difference.

"For that reason, this week’s event is one of 50 events being organised by Dow all around the world.”
