TWO teenagers have been injured and another arrested after trouble broke out in Farnworth.

Police were called to reports of a possible assault on playing fields off Lucas Road, close to St James’s C of E High School, shortly before 10.25pm on Friday evening.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a person hit over the head with an axe.

An ambulance attended and a 16-year-old boy was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries.

Another 16-year-old reported to hospital by himself and was treated for head injuries.

Police officers have since arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of wounding with intent.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly before 10.25pm on Friday, police were called to reports of a possible assault on playing fields off Lucas Road in Farnworth.

“Officers attended and a 16-year-old boy self-presented at hospital with head injuries.

“Another 16-year-old was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries.

“A 17-year-old has since been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
