AN UNEXPECTED star surprised some of the millions of viewers who tuned into the highly-anticipated finale of Game of Thrones.

Whether you stayed up to watch the final-ever episode of the show on Sky Atlantic in the early hours of Monday morning or caught up with it that night, eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted a popular Cumbrian product which managed to sneak its way onto the set.

Visible to viewers for a split second, the plastic water bottle immediately attracted attention on social media but one reader contacted the News & Star after noticing it was in fact an Aqua Pura bottle.

The company is based near Armathwaite and sources its water in the Eden Valley.

The bottle appeared behind the leg of Samwell Tarly, played by actor John Bradley, during a meeting of the Westerosi lords and ladies while they decided on who should rule the country.

A spokesman from Aqua Pura said: “We were pleasantly surprised to see one of our bottles on the set of Game of Thrones’ final episode.

“Whether the cast were parched or they needed to re-hydrate their dragons mid-scene, it’s clear our bottled mineral water is a must-have item on the continent of Westeros!”

The News & Star contacted HBO, who commissioned the show, for a comment, but they had not responded at the time of going to press.

The on-screen cameo comes just weeks after a coffee cup was spotted on a banquet table in the fourth episode, and was later digitally removed by producers.

Following news of the coffee cameo, HBO issued a statement, saying: “In response to inquiries from those who saw a craft services coffee cup in Sunday night’s episode of Game of Thrones.

“The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake.

“Daenerys had ordered a herbal tea.”

The final episode of Game of Thrones, which bowed out after eight seasons, was watched by 3.2m people in the UK during its live broadcast at 2am, according to the Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board.

Meanwhile in America, a total of 19.3m viewers tuned in to the finale, breaking a new audience record for the show.
