POLICE have launched an investigation after two people were filmed deliberately setting fire to a food store delivery van in Barry’s town centre.

CCTV footage captured the scene in which the Iceland van driver’s window was smashed and the vehicle set alight.

Two Iceland vehicles were parked behind the Iceland store, in Holton Road, Barry.

Emergency services attended after the fire was reported just after 5.30am on Wednesday, April 24.

An Iceland spokesman said: “One of our delivery vans was deliberately set on fire at our Barry store last week.

“We have CCTV footage of two people breaking the driver’s window and setting fire to the vehicle.

“The van is a write-off.

“An adjacent van was also badly damaged by the fire but can be repaired.

“We believe this to be a random act of vandalism.

“No-one was injured in the fire.”

South Wales Fire & Rescue Service said crew had recorded the fire as “deliberate.”

Firefighters from the Barry white watch crew dealt with the fire until 6.20am and police involvement was requested.

Minor damage to the rear of the store itself was reported.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: “We are investigating an incident where damaged was caused to two vans at the rear of the Iceland store in Holton Road, Barry, on April 24, shortly after 5.30am.

“Officers attended the location where an Iceland delivery van was on fire.

“The fire spread to another parked delivery van causing damage.”
