CUSTOMERS stormed through the doors after the Vale mayor declared the B&M Express open for business in Barry on Thursday, March 21.

Discount grocery retailer B&M Express opened its new outlet in Holton Road just after 9am when Vale mayor, Cllr Leighton Rowlands cut the ribbon allowing shoppers to enter.

The neighbourhood store, which sells top-quality branded foods, drinks and household products at low prices, is based in the former New Look store.

B&M Express gave away 1080 freezer bags to customers alongside money-off coupons.

Heron Foods is part of B&M Express.

Heron Foods area manager, Ross Badham said: “It’s been really exciting to launch in Barry and we’re proud to serve Barry,” adding that customers could continue to expect offers each week.

The store’s most exotic product is considered to be the ostrich burgers, but more familiar goods are on sale.

B&M Express store manager, Martin Gummett-Preece said he wanted to thank colleagues for their preparation work and the residents who had already shown support.

He added: “I think the store will give the town a boost.”

Vale mayor, Cllr Leighton Rowlands said: “It’s fantastic that B&M Express has come to Barry and especially on Holton Road.

“I’m sure this would help bring footfall to our town centre and encourage other national brand names to our town.

“I wish the store the greatest success.”

B&M Express in Barry will be open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm, and Sunday, 10am to 4pm.
