FROM the Archive this week features a photograph of the Barry Hotel which is now an apartment block in Windsor Road.
In 1897 Stephenson and Alexander Auctioneers of 5, High Street made an inventory of the contents of the Barry Hotel, as it was up for sale.
The inventory book still exists and is in the Glamorgan Archives.
The sale included the walled garden and stable behind the hotel in Windsor Road.
In the garden they had strawberry beds and fruit trees.
The sale also included a seven-year-old bay gelding called "Bob" and a five-year-old black mare sired by a race horse called "Saucy Boy".
The Hotel was sold to William Hancock & Co. Brewers, in Cardiff for £8,000.
The Barry & District News would like to thank Cllr Shirley Hodges for the photograph and information.
If you have an old Barry photograph you would like to see included, with information about what it depicts, email sha@barryanddistrictnews.co.uk
