THIS week’s From the Archive features a postcard of Edwardian actress Nancy Price which was sent from Barry Dock in 1906.

Nancy was one of the stars in the black and white silent movie "The Lyons Mail" a regular movie shown at The Romilly Hall, Broad Street, now the Sir Samuel Romilly Public house.

Newspapers at the time report of large crowds going to see high-class movies at the Romilly Hall.

It first opened as an animated picture house on December 20, 1909.

It was then described as having plush seating and electric lighting throughout with heating.

Things we now take for granted on a night out.

The Barry & District News would like to thank Cllr Shirley Hodges for the photograph and information.
