A FORMER chairman of the Welsh Joint Education Committee and long-standing Vale and Barry Town Council councillor has pleaded not guilty to charges of indecent assault.
Cllr Anthony Hampton, of Fforest Drive, Barry, appeared in Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 15.
The 71-year-old, who represents Barry’s Iltyd ward as a Conservative councillor, was arrested in January 2018.
He was the deputy mayor of Barry for the year 2017/18.
South Wales Police charged him with 10 counts of indecent assault on Friday, December 21, 2018.
The police counts related to two people, who were children at the time of the alleged “number of non-recent” offences.
The court was told that six charges related to a boy under the age of 16 with four charges relating to a boy under the age of 14.
Hampton was referred to Cardiff Crown Court for trial on Tuesday, February 12.
