A MICRO-PUB has opened in Holton Road, Barry - making it the only one of its kind in the town.

The Butterfly Collector was officially opened by Vale MP Alun Cairns on Friday, August 24.

Mr Cairns said he was glad that people were seeing the business opportunity that Barry offers and hoped that this would provide a boost to the area.

It has been set up by co-owner Gareth Slattery and Brew Monster Brewery.

Mr Slattery, a former courier, saw the micro-brewery concept on his travels and as he was so impressed by their uniqueness, he decided to establish his own in Barry.

Real Ale Guide, Simon Martin, of Cadoxton, Barry, said he was delighted that finally the town had a micro-brewery and he would no longer have to travel to Cardiff to enjoy quality craft ale.

Mr Cairns said: “Craft beer has really rocketed in recent years and I’m very pleased that we’ve got Barry’s first micro-pub.

“I have no doubt that this will attract more people to our area and have a positive impact on other traders.

“The concept for The Butterfly Collector is a fantastic one and I’m very pleased to welcome them to Barry.

“Given the news recently that we’re losing some stores, I’m glad that Holton Road is attracting new businesses and the regeneration of Barry continues.

“As new businesses set up, we need to support them by ensuring that parking remains free and that our local offer continues to attract customers.”
