Barrybados Gift Shop has been presented with a certificate by local MP Alun Cairns having been named the Vale of Glamorgan Responsible Business Champion.
The award, created by the All-Party Parliamentary Corporate Responsibility Group, has been running since 2015 and seeks to find businesses that promote responsible practices, such as ensuring a healthy workplace and supporting their community.
MPs have the opportunity to nominate a champion from the business community in their constituency.
The national winner is due to be announced in Westminster on Wednesday, July 4.
Co-creator of Barrybados, Louis Ross, said he was over the moon with his nomination.
After hearing the news he said: “I’m quite shocked, I took a call this morning, I didn’t know anything about it until then. I’m humbled, to be nominated by the people of Barry is just amazing.”
He continued: “I was told our nomination was because we had made small changes such as moving to paper bags, cutting off tags of products to reduce waste, offering a free delivery service, excellent customer service and promotion of Barry amongst other things.”
Mr Cairns said: “It’s a pleasure to nominate Barrybados for Responsible Business Champion after their hard work, not only to promote Barry, but also with regards to taking responsibility over their environmental footprint.”
