Barry Town Council mayor Cllr Janice Charles, council leader Cllr Bronwen Brooks and Cllr Leighton Rowlands raised the LGBT+ flag at the Town Council Offices in recognition of Pride Month.
Barry town mayor Cllr Janice Charles said: “I am honoured to be present to support the LGBT+ community and to demonstrate Barry Town Council’s commitment to promoting equality and diversity in all of its work.”
Cllr Brooks explained that the council’s flag flying protocol had been amended to include flying the LGBT+ flag for the month of June in recognition of Pride Month.
The request, put forward by Cllr Leighton Rowlands was considered at a meeting of the council’s finance, policy and general purposes committee on June 11.
Cllr Rowlands was very pleased that the finance committee had agreed to fly the flag.
He added that he was delighted to be part of the flag-raising event to support gay rights, equality and standing up for the LGBT+ community.
