FORMER bomb disposal expert is set to race across Europe in a Rally for Heroes in aid of armed forces charity SSAFA.
Post Traumatic Syndrome Disorder (PTSD) sufferer Steven Jones, of St Athan, will drive more than 3,000 miles through a total of 10 countries, including Luxembourg, Croatia, Bosnia and Italy, along with Rally drivers from across the UK – in 10 days.
Mr Jones suffered from PTSD after he left the armed forces.
He said: “I want to help raise money for the SSAFA as a way of saying thank you for the invaluable help I received.”
Vale MP Alun Cairns met with Mr Jones recently and describes Mr Jones as a “credit to the local community.
“This is a huge feat but I know Steven’s determination will see him through the challenge.
“The SSAFA provides lifelong support to serving men, women and veterans from the British Armed Forces. Without the SSAFA many veterans and others who benefit from the charity, wouldn’t be able to recover and return to normality after serving.
“Steven has suffered incredibly with PTSD but hasn’t let this stop him - he wants to give back to those who helped him onto the road to recovery.”
The rally will start from Horse Guards Parade on August, 2.
