THE final set of Vale of Glamorgan Association Football League finals took place on Sunday 13th May in what turned out to be a day of doubles on a gloriously sunny day – for the second week running.

Starting the day – of three finals – was Year 7 League Cup Final for the Brian Riseborough Memorial Cup between Sully Sports FC and Penarth Town Raiders – who were also crowned League Champions thanks to a 0-0 draw with Cogan Coronation FC on Tuesday 1st May.

Penarth Town Raiders’ Sam Reid nabbed the first goal on the eighth-minute mark.

This was enough to take them into a half-time lead.

Sam Reid got his brace in the 35th minute and then bagged his hat trick in the 51st minute.

Final score Sully Sports FC 0-3 Penarth Town Raiders.

Sandwiched between the Year 7 and Dockers Cup finals was the Year 8 League final.

Cowbridge Town Reds took on Island Marine FC for the Billy Butlin Trophy.

Cowbridge Town Reds entered the match as league champions after winning 5-2 against Island Marine the weekend before.

Cowbridge Town Reds took the lead in the 18th minute with a goal from Driscoll.

This was the score line going into a second half to which Island Marine pressed for an equaliser.

An open back and forth second half took place with Cowbridge Town Reds pressing for a second to settle the game but the Island Marine FC goal keeper pulled of a string of excellent saves to deny them a second; but the single goal of the game was enough.

Full Time score Island Marine FC 0-1 Cowbridge Town Reds.

Lastly for the day – and for the season – was the Dockers Cup; the League Cup for Division 2 between AFC Rhoose and Llantwit Major FC.

With Llantwit Major FC being the third team to play on the day having won the league title.

This was thanks to a 4-0 over BRT Dynamos the Wednesday before the final.

Llantwit Major took the lead on the 11th minute with a goal from Josh Morgan; which was enough to take them into half-time.

Three goals came in the second half all belonging to Llantwit Major; Colm Garrett (51st Minute), Phil Grafton (65th Minute) and Steve Phillips (80th Minute) to complete a whitewash.

Final score; AFC Rhoose 0-4 LLantwit Major FC

Once again the Vale of Glamorgan Association Football League would like to thank spectators for attending and guests of honour presenting the trophies and medals.

We would also like to congratulate all cup winners and say well done to all runners-up.

The league will continue for at least another week – two at most – and once completed all champions will be listed in full.

Lastly, we’d like to remind all clubs that the AGM will take place on Monday 18th June.
