A FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD schoolboy from Barry has earned a Distinction in his Grade 8 clarinet examination.
Jack Ollier, who attends Barry Comprehensive School, sat his ABRSM Grade 8 clarinet exam at the end of last term and was thrilled to discover he had achieved the Distinction, having scored almost full marks for his three performance pieces.
Grade 8 is the highest level of music examination offered by the Royal Schools of Music.
Jack said: "It didn’t sink in to start with, not only that I had passed Grade 8 but that I had passed with Distinction.
"I can’t believe it."
Jack’s teacher, Jo Weaving, said: "I’m so proud of Jack. To gain a distinction at any grade is fantastic, but to be awarded Distinction at Grade 8, at such a young age, is amazing."
Jack is now working towards sitting his Grade 8 piano examination in the summer.
