THIS year’s Vale poppy appeal is on its way to surpassing last year’s sum of more than £57,577.79.
A busy poppy appeal fortnight has seen almost £50,000 collected already, with more coming in daily.
Poppy Appeal organisers, Roy and Teresa Goodwin said the generosity of local people was humbling.
Mrs Goodwin said: “We are really proud of the young people who, through youth organisations and the area’s schools have raised £21,288.46.
“We also need to pay tribute to our fantastic volunteers who supported us tirelessly (and) everyone who marched or supported the Armistice Parades and services which were massively well attended.
“We are looking forward to a busy World War I Centenary year, including our very own Festival of Remembrance featuring the South Wales Police Band on September 22.”
Tickets are available from the Memo Arts Centre or via their website.
