THIS week the nostalgia section features a photograph of Barry Butlins Redcoats in the 1969 season.
Some of the Redcoats in the line-up were “uncle” and “auntie” Johnny Hayward and his wife, Frank Worrall, ents manager David Simpson, hostess Tina Simpson, Roger James, and stage manager Alan Mason.
Mrs Simpson described it as being a happy season where self-catering winter weekends in Barry and the chairlift proved popular with visitors.
Visitors didn’t just restrain themselves to the Barry Island camp – they went into the town to explore.
But when parents wanted to relax and enjoy some evening entertainment, they could be assured their children were safely tucked up in bed.
If a child was heard to be awake in a chalet, a “baby crying in chalet number…” alert would flash up in the ballroom after allowing cabaret comedians time to finish their gag.
The Barry & District News would like to thank Tina and David Simpson, formerly Redcoats and a season hostess and entertainments manager at Barry Butlins, for the photograph and information.
If you have an old Barry photograph you would like to see included, with information about what it depicts, email sha@barryanddistrictnews.co.uk
