WITH the help of family and friends, members of Soroptimist International Barry and District were pleased to be able to donate 1,000 chicks to the Velindre Chick Knit Appeal.
This is the 16th year that they have supported the appeal. As well as knitting chicks, club member and local florist Hilary West, assisted by members of her staff, also fill chicks and other knitted items with chocolate eggs, which they sell in the shop, with all proceeds going to the Velindre Appeal.
This year club president Pat Salt was delighted that Hilary accompanied her to Velindre Hospital when they delivered the chicks, together with £64 from Hilary’s shop sales.
The exceptional demand for the chicks means that the Velindre Appeal are always looking for new knitters, and if anyone would like to get involved please telephone Julie Smith on 029 2031 6211 or email her at julie.smith6@wales.nhs.uk
