TWO pupils have been excluded from a Barry school after this video of an "assault" was uploaded online.

The short clip, which appears to show punches and kicks being thrown by an Ysgol Bro Morgannwg pupil at another pupil on the Buttrills playing fields, has been viewed online tens of thousands of times across social media.

Ysgol Bro Morgannwg headteacher Hywel Price said: “The school is fully aware of the incident and footage, and staff have spent countless hours collating evidence from various sources, collecting written statements from pupils, and meeting with parents.

“Two pupils have received fixed term exclusions whilst the school conducts an investigation in co-operation with the Vale of Glamorgan Council and the governing body. A final decision will be taken on the matter once this thorough investigation has been concluded.”

South Wales Police acting chief inspector, Robert Miles, said the police were "aware of the video, showing an assault on a school pupil in Buttrills Playing Fields in Barry, which has been circulating on social media."

He added: "I want to assure the public that the matter is being taken very seriously and that we are continuing to work closely with the school and the families of those concerned. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Councillor Lis Burnett Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Education at the Vale of Glamorgan council said: “The Vale of Glamorgan council is supporting the school and its governing body while an investigation of the incident is being undertaken.

"Any further disciplinary action will be a matter for the headteacher and governing body. A counselling service is available to support any pupils impacted by the incident.”
