BARRY Island's skyline will see a radical change this week when the new Ferris Wheel makes an appearance.

Construction has begun on the new 33m high Ferris Wheel, which has been christened the "Barry Eye" by Pleasure Park owner Henry Danter.

The wheel is so high, that Weston-super-mare will be visible from its peak, Mr Danter has said.

This week ten men have began putting up the million pound attraction - which comprises of 20 carriages able to carry six people in each. The revolving ride is also decorated with two Welsh flags on its carousel.

Showman Henry Danter said that he was delighted to be witnessing the arrival of the new attraction, whihc he believes will become a major showpiece of the rejuvenated Barry Island Pleasure park.

“It’s been a big move for us," he said. "This has taken place within ten months of us opening.

"It’s going to be a great attraction for Barry and the whole of Wales. People can go on this Ferris Wheel and see Weston-super-mare on a clear day.”
