BARRY Island's new log flume is being put set to be constructed on the Pleasure Park site replacing the former one-flume attraction that once greeted visitors.

The Danter family have paid more than a £1 million to construct and bring the 140 foot by 90 foot log flume, from France, to Barry Island and it is expected to be completed in three days.

The two-chute galvanised steel structure will be positioned in the middle section of the Park site with eight logs, carrying up to four people at a time, negotiating 100,000 litres of water.

Safety checks will then carried out before visitors step into the logs.

Henry Danter’s son Harry, in charge of construction, said cranes would be the first thing onlookers would see.

Mr Danter, 20, said: “People have been looking for a log flume. It’s something that people want. All last year people were saying 'Where’s the log flume?' The last one was so damaged – that wasn’t an option. We had to smash it up and start again. I like to think this is going to be bigger and better in many ways.”

The Danter family will be bringing a giant ferris wheel, on another date, so large that Weston-super-Mare will be visible from its peak.
