TIME has been called on one of Barry's most well known and oldest pubs, the Windsor Hotel.

The doors to the Holton Road venue were officially closed on Monday, January 5 and its windows boarded up the following day.

The Windsor, which was built in the early 1900s, has in recent years become a regular venue for bands and solo artists who often performed in the bar known locally as "The Zoo".

The Barry & District News first reported the planned closure of the pub in late October, when owners SA Brains notified the landlord.

Peter Wilson, Head of Retail Operations at Brains said: "We have taken the decision to close the Windsor in Barry, which is in need of significant repair, giving us the time to review its future."

At this point it is unclear what the future of the building is, and similarly where Barry's East End and West End boxing clubs will be relocating.

The clubs, who both go back decades in Barry, have been training above the Windsor since losing their homes in the Admiral Pub and Romilly School respectively.
