THANKS to financial assistance from the Community Chest a group of nine Sea Cadet and Scout leaders were able to begin training to become British Rowing Coaches this weekend.
Representing three of the Barry Sea Scout groups, as well as Sea Cadets groups from Barry and Porthcawl, they will be training on Barry Docks throughout the winter, with the aim of being qualified by the beginning of the boating season next year.
The course has been organised by Barry Youth Watersports, Nigel Vick , who said: “This course brings together the main users of Barry Docks and will mean that there is quality coaching available for youth organisations that want to get out on Barry Docks. The Sea Cadet rowing boats are a great way of getting on the water and I am grateful to them for being so generous in making them available. It is no small measure of the dedication of these people that they are willing to give up their time throughout the winter in order to provide opportunities to young people.”
