A BARRY mum has less than two weeks to raise the money to kickstart her ambition of recording an album of bilingual songs to help teach children Welsh.

Penni Carr is using crowd funding website Kickstarter to try and raise £1,500 in donations to fund her big idea.

Having launched the Barry-based award-winning Babi Bach music classes in September 2013, Penni realised that There was a such a high amount of interest in teaching children Welsh through music that her classes alone couldn't keep up with the demand. As a result she decided that Babi Bach - The Album would be her next project.

Former actress and singer Penni wants to create a modern sounding album of bilingual nursery rhymes to replace the dated albums still being used by many schools and classes.

Mum-of-two Penni, 34, said: "A lot of the music being used is quite dated. A lot of it comes from the 70s when there was a big Welsh language revival.

"I want to make a cool CD, something that will actually appeal to kids."

Kickstarter operates a system where, unless a project's target is met, no money is taken from people who have made pledges. Penni is offering various tiered incentives for donations - the highest being the opportunity to sing on the album for donations of £150 or more, the lowest being a social media shout-out for a £5 donation .

Penni is hoping that any local businesses or individuals in Barry would be able to chip in, and emphasised that this is a case where every little helps.

If the £1,500 target is met by the deadline of Monday, July 28, it will be spent on paying local talent to perform and record 12 songs.

The finished album would be made available from Babi Bach and online stores.
