AN ELDERLY man has been seriously injured after impaling himself on a spike following a fall from a tree.
Emergency services were called to an address at Vale View, Barry at 11.28am this morning (Friday, April 25).
Two fire crews worked to rescue the man - clearing the area of undergrowth so paramedics could treat him - and he was taken to hospital at approximately 1pm.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports a man had injured himself on a fence on Vale View, Barry.
"A BASICS doctor and crew in an emergency ambulance attended, and a man in his 70s with serious injuries was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff."
