A TREE has been planted in a Barry school garden to celebrate the life of a "very special little boy."

Paul and Nicola Adamson were honoured guests at the planting ceremony at Palmerston Primary last week - the school once attended by their late son Jamie.

Nicola, who used to work at the school, said: "Today's effort has been lovely. It has been so nice to see Jamie's little school friends here.

"Jamie really enjoyed coming here to ride his trike and play in the school yard. To have this tree in the nursery grounds means such a lot to us."

Jamie Adamson was just five when he died of leukaemia three years ago in January. He would have turned eight years old on Christmas Day.

Since his passing, his mum and dad and elder brother Sam have raised tens of thousands of pounds by setting up a charity - the JAM Fund (Jamie Adamson Memorial Fund) - that helps children affected by childhood leukaemia and other illnesses, and their families.

Melody Jones, a teacher at the school, who helped co-ordinate the ceremony along with other staff members including Yvonne Hawkins and Pat Hopkins, said: "We are all close friends with the family and this is an opportunity for us to give something back to them."

School secretary Yvonne said: "Paul and Nicola have done so much work for the charity, we just wanted to make the effort for them."
