THE Vale Council has revealed the number of “empty” homes and retail units - following a Freedom of Information request.

The Vale of Glamorgan as a whole has identified 56 properties unoccupied due to major repairs or structural alteration, 420 properties unoccupied less than six months, 640 properties unoccupied more than six months and 345 properties unoccupied for other reasons.

Retail units - defined as shop, retail warehouse, hotel, hairdressing salon, studio, public house, café, restaurant, bakery, kiosk, bank - where a till would probably be used by the proprietor - identified 320 unoccupied premises.

A bid to bring hundreds of homes in the Vale back into use went out to public consultation in November last year and ran until mid December
