A BARRY-BASED charity is hoping to taste success with its latest venture – a brand new café on High Street.

ValePlus - which provides learning and skills opportunities for people with special needs - officially launched Café No 5 last week.

Thanks to Dow Corning and npower together with trustee Rob Hartrey, the business is up and running after just eight weeks’ preparation. Vale AM Jane Hutt and ValePlus trustee Mike Shanahan officially declared the cafe open for business.

Mike said: "This will give our service users opportunities to achieve, succeed, and train.

"We are using produce from our own garden, but I am told we are down to our last cucumber!"

Jane Hutt added: “ValePlus is a unique organisation, providing meaningful opportunities, skills and training for its members, who also run the NOVA charity shop and community business on High Street.

“This is a fantastic venue for the busy High Street in Barry."
