AN ANNUAL memorial concert celebrating a Barry musical legend, who supported the likes of Fairport Convention, will take place on Friday, October 4.

Tickets are now on sale for the gig paying tribute to Neil Lewis who died in 2009.

The Neil Lewis Memorial concert will rock up at the Barry Island Sports and Social Club from 7pm.

Mr Lewis son, Rhys Lewis organises the yearly event for local music-lovers to get together and remember legendary Barry musician

Musicians taking to the stage include Second Chance, The Hindenburgs, Groove Line, Black Angus, Tumbling Dice – and a DJ set from Becky Lloyd to keep you entertained between band breaks.

Mr Leis said: “There is a top line up for this year’s concert and although running order has yet to be confirmed this promises to remember my dad, showcase much of the Barry music scene’s hottest talent and raise money for very worthy causes.

“Once again, so many musicians have come forward to be involved and I’m going to do my best to make this the best memorial gig yet.”

Respected artist Neil played for many years with Max Boyce even enjoying a minor hit with a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the band’s road crew called Packer of the Leads.

He also supported Fairport Convention, Tom Paxton and Billy Connolly and lived and played in Canada and Bermuda before settling back in his native Barry.

All profits will be split between various charities chosen by the bands and there will be a raffle on the night.

The gig has also been sponsored by CF6 Lettings and Nailed It Events.

Mr Lewis added: “Please can everyone who is coming along be sure to get their tickets early to avoid disappointment as it’s extremely unlikely that tickets will be available on the evening itself.”

Tickets, costing £10, are available from Boofys, Barry island, the Barry Island Sports and Social Club, The Ship Hotel, Barry Music Shop, or from Rhys - to arrange collection - on 07595497255.
