A DRAG queen from Newport is hosting a unique show in Cardiff next Friday.

Mary Golds, played by Daniel Bates, will be hosting Grindstones and Rhinestones: An evening with Mary Golds, at Lookout Cafe and Bar, on October 5.

Mr Bates, who has played Mary Golds for ten years, explained: "The performance will be about Mary Gold's life story.

"She's been married three times, she's had encounters with different celebrities over the years.

"There will be fun anecdotes, and a couple of songs. Plus I'll be joined by Mark Gibson, who was voted Cardiff's Favourite Singer at a local awards ceremony."

Mr Bates has a following in Newport, as well as Cardiff, as he used to headline in Newport club, The Birdcage, before it closed down.

He also used to be involved with Dolman Theatre, but now lives in Cardiff where he works in gay bars and helps with Pride.

The shenanigans of Grindstones and Rhinestones: An evening with Mary Golds will begin at 8pm and should go on until about 11pm.

Tickets are £15 and can be purchased online at: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/grindstones-and-rhinestones-an-evening-with-mary-golds-tickets-49706417232
