BARRY’S fifth Christmas Tree Festival is inviting community groups, individuals, local businesses, churches and schools to display a originally-designed Christmas tree.

The trees are set to go on display at St Mary’s church, Holton Road, Barry, during the festival.

Barry Town mayor, councillor Charlotte Williams and Vale mayor, cllr Stuart Egan will judge the trees with the most original will be awarded a certificate.

The three categories are schools, local organisations and young people.

The Festival will begin at 7pm on Wednesday, November 30 with the Christmas tree lights switched on and the winners announced.

A musical evening will follow with items from a youth band and the children of the town.

Light refreshments will be provided for an inclusive ticket price of £3.

Children are admitted free.

The Christmas Tree Festival takes place on December 1, 2 and 3.

The church will be open to visitors, for tree viewing, on Thursday, December 1 and Friday, December 2, from 10am and 4pm, and on Saturday, December 3 from 10.30am to noon.

School choirs will perform during the festival and refreshments will be available.

Father Christmas will serve up breakfast from 9am to 10.15am on Saturday, December 3.

A breakfast of fruit, cereals, toast and soft drinks will be laid on, costing £5 and including a gift for each child from Mr Claus.

Organiser, Susan Borges said: “We look forward to hearing from all those who would like to display a tree, this festival is being put together again this year for the people of Barry to take part in and to enjoy.”
