THE Newport Gwent Dragons trio of Ollie Griffiths, Cory Hill and Tyler Morgan will get their chance to stake a claim for summer caps when they start for Wales in their tour warm-up against RGC 1404 on Friday evening.

Robin McBryde’s squad are currently in the north preparing for the June Tests against Tonga and Samoa and will play a conditioning match against the Principality Premiership side in Colwyn Bay (kick-off 7pm).

The interim coach has named the Dragons three in the XV for the encounter at Parc Eirias with uncapped Griffiths starting at number eight, Hill at lock and Morgan in midfield alongside captain Jamie Roberts.

“Friday night’s match will give us a perfect chance to give certain players an opportunity and see new combinations working together ahead of the tour,” McBryde.

“Some players need to prove fitness and form and this week’s training camp, along with the match is the ideal opportunity to do that.”

Griffiths, a flanker by trade, gets a chance to show that he has the ability to thrive at number eight in the Tests while Taulupe Faletau and Ross Moriarty are on Lions duty.

He gets the nod ahead of Josh Navidi in north Wales with the Cardiff Blues pair of Seb Davies and Ellis Jenkins joining him in the back row while the Scarlets’ Aaron Shingler and Wasps’ Thomas Young are among the replacements after being in domestic finals last weekend.

Hill may have just five caps to his name but is the most experienced lock in the party and gets the chance to cement a place for the internationals in the absence of Jake Ball, who has been ruled out of the tour with a shoulder injury.

Morgan gets the nod at 13 ahead of Cory Allen, who is named on the wing, although Scott Williams will be favourite to start in midfield against the Tongans in Auckland on Friday, June 16.
