GOALKEEPER Wayne Hennessey believes Sunday’s clash with Belgium is the biggest international match for Wales in the past decade.

The Crystal Palace stopper signed last season by Newport’s Tony Pulis has played a key role in helping Wales to the top of European Championship qualifying group B after a man-of-the-match display in last month’s 0-0 draw with Bosnia at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Wales drew with Belgium the last time they faced off in international competition – albeit Marc Wilmots side had already qualified for the World Cup in Brazil – but Hennessey knows circumstances make this a far bigger occasion and insists Chris Coleman’s charges are full of confidence.

“It's up there with the biggest games of the last decade. They've got quality players but so have we so we're confident we can go and get a result,” he said.

“The Bosnia game gives me confidence but it was a great team performance and hopefully we can keep on improving.

“It's a big test. You'll see a very different Belgium; they are very strong going forward. We upset their party last time, but we'll be fully prepared for a tough test. It will be tougher, more is at stake and you'll see a more competitive team than we played last time.

“They're the favourites, you only have to look at players they have in team and on bench, but we have players who can do a lot of damage as well. Belgium – we're not far behind them. We've got world class players and so have they. We're looking forward to it.”

Hennessey admits the Wales camp has been boosted by the absence of inspirational Belgium captain Vincent Kompany, a double Premier League winner with Manchester City with confidence at an all-time high.

“Kompany is out which is a boost but they have good talent to come in. We have to be prepared and deal with that,” he said.

“We've been together a lot longer now than last time, we have players coming back in, a lot more is at stake and hopefully we can get something. The spirit in the camp is unbelievable and if we can take that into the game we can get something. We would have taken this situation, you can't get better than top of the league.”

Hennessey believes expectation levels are rising all the time as to what this squad can achieve.

“Hopefully we'll have more time together next season and improve a lot more,” he said. “We've got a full squad and now we've got a full team it's good for the gaffer to make some decisions. The disappointment in the past is key players have been out but we're looking strong now. We have Gareth Bale, Joe Allen and Aaron Ramsey all available. It's rare all three get to play together.

“When they're there it brings a tempo and a really high standard.

“I think teams should look at us and not want to play us, the players we have, the PL experience, they should be nervous. We believe we can do it. We're playing well and the spirit in the camp is great.”
