OCI A left to rue missed chances

OCI A 1

BARRY VILLA 3

IT WAS a bad day for OCI who at the end of the game were ruing missed chances and excellent goalkeeping from Villa's number one Anthony Hopkins.

It was a tense affair as both sides were obviously up for the game and an early exchange at both ends proved just that. Nathan Williams, playing against his former club, was like a man possessed throughout and did not deserve to be on the losing side.

OCI had chance after chance early on but were foiled constantly and with the pace of the Villa forwards making life uneasy for the OCI back line of Powell, Nas, Nelly and Starr, it seemed a goal was imminent.

A misguided backpass was pounced on by Villa forward Darren Townsend who slotted home with ease past the oncoming keeper.

OCI were not giving up lightly and won a penalty shortly after, converted by Captain Richard Starr.

A few more exchanges in shots made this a scrappy but intense game and after another defensive mistake by OCI, Villa made it 2-1 at half time.

The second half was a bit more one sided as OCI piled on the pressure for the equaliser and Villa frustrated them with a good display in their defensive quarter mainly by Steve Bowsher at centre back.

Jamie Randall kept pushing for a goal and made the Villa keeper pull off some magnificent saves. After Nelly substituted, Alex entered the fray for his first outing for OCI A, and did well throughout his appearance.

A long ball over the top was not dealt with properly and Barry Villa player Barrie Hopkins unleashed a shot that no goalkeeper would have any chance of saving, making the score 3-1.

Omar took over the gloves and Clemo went up front with Powell pushing in to midfield with Marc and Nathan. But in the end after a good display from both sides it was Villa who won and OCI's season had come to an end.

It was a long season, in which OCI finished a respectable 6th, and proved more of a learning curve for players and management alike. Thanks to Barry Villa players and management and thanks to the referee.

OCI: Stephen Clements, Nas Ismail, Anthony Powell, Neil Jones, Richard Starr, Omar Gharbieh, Nathan Williams, Marc Williams, Gwyn Good, James Davidson, Jamie Randall, Alex Hardwick, Richard Good, James Clements.
