FC PUMAS 5 COGAN CORONATION 3
FC Pumas went in to this Division 1 league clash on the back of a good run in the league and cup, and came up against a good Cogan side.
After some early exchanges it was Pumas who struck first, with Gino Cavaliere hitting a cross-cum-shot just inside the Cogan half - the Cogan goalkeeper was dumbfounded and the ball went straight in to the top corner.
Another good move not long after saw a long ball over the top expertly converted by Gwyn Good, and the score was now 2-0.
Cogan were not going to lie down and let Pumas take advantage though, and after a scramble in the box, a shot was hit at Gino's hand with a penalty conceded. Cogan converted for 2-1.
More Cogan pressure was then capitalised on by the away side and an Anthony Powell own goal gave the Coronation their equaliser.
Then just before half time, Cogan took the lead after yet another lapse in concentration by the Pumas back line, to make the half time score 3-2 to Cogan.
A half time tea-cup-throwing and berating from the Pumas Management seemed to spur on the lads, and they went in to the second half looking a more focused side. Good soon equalised after a passing move on the left.
Ian Weavers and Captain Marcus Jones organised the defence and midfield, making sure the Cogan offensive was easily held at bay and with Gino, Mark Christoforato, Anthony Powell and Davey Allen in defence, the Pumas were looking a much more solid outfit.
Then Scott Christoforato scored to put the Pumas ahead 4-3 with a great solo goal.
the returning duo of Clive Riley and Jamie Randall were introduced for tough cookie Mark Ato and the hard running Anthony Curtis, with Curtis unlucky not to get on the score sheet in this game.
Weavers moved to left back with Riley partnering Cus in the midfield, and Randall joining Gwyn up front.
Some Cogan pressure gave the Pumas a scare, but stubborn defence seemed to do the trick and then Scott broke away and scored the Pumas' fifth. Alessandro Cavaliere replaced Anthony Partridge towards the end for some more defensive guile.
The final whistle blew giving the Pumas another league win and pushing them up a place in the league to second.
Thanks and good luck to Cogan for the rest of the season and also thanks to Referee Rob Jones.
Pumas man of the match was Gwyn Good.
