CONTINUING on from the successes of 2011, the Cadoxton Schools of Taekwondo attended the first of a series of six 2012 Welsh Masters Grand Prix tournaments.

The tournament started with the pattern section where Cody Jacobsen took 3rd in the beginner’s category, Cian Allen took 2nd and Demi Baker came 3rd in the 7 and under. Lucy Newman took 2nd and Thomas Haysham took 3rd in the advanced category.

Once the patterns were over, the point and continuous sparring categories got underway.

Ever improving Cian Allen came away with 2nd in the 7 and under and a 2nd place in the advanced point sparring categories. Not to be outdone by her older brother, young Madison Allen came away with a credible 3rd in the girls continuous sparring.

Jenson Rees fought his way through his categories to take 3rd in the points and 1st place in the continuous sparring.

Competing for the first time Evan Baron, Joel Wells and Emily Halford all gave a good account of themselves just missing out on a medal this time.

Star of the future Cameron Williams took 1st place in both the boys under 7 and intermediate point sparing. Once again Ollie Tipples had to show all his young experience to battle his way through to 3rd place in the continuous sparring. Giving a good account of herself was Lucy Newman who came with a 3rd in both the point and continuous sparring.

Competing against a much bigger opponent Thomas Haysham worked hard to come away with 2nd place in the continuous sparring. Keeping her brother on his toes Shannon Haysham took 1st in point and 3rd in continuous sparring.

Competing in the same categories Matthew Bennett and Bradley Halford both fought their way through to the finals where Matthew came way with 1st in the point and 2nd in the continuous sparring, while Bradley took 1st in continuous and 3rd in the point sparing.

Morganne Gomez Jones fought well to take 2nd in her point sparring and 1st place in her continuous sections. Just missing out on a podium place this time were Keita Enfield and Dominic Todd.

After a long day coaching last up was Jamie Halford who took 1st place in the 17 to 24 years of age male point sparring category.
