SULLY Centurions hosted neighbours Barry Wanderers last Saturday and ran out winners by seven wickets.

The visitors batted first on a lovely sunny afternoon and the opening pair of Tudor and Harris took the score along to 45, before Tudor was caught by Goodway off the bowling of skipper Jake Griffett, for 20.

Four runs later Harris (12) joined him back in the pavilion, following a catch by Lee off Ferriday’s bowling.

Tillbrook was the pick of the Wanderers’ batsmen, ending on 35, an innings that included a half century stand with Keir for the fourth wicket.

The final score was 166 all out. For Centurions, Kieran Ferriday (3 for 29) Ricki Griffett (2 for 17) and Harish, who was making his 1st XI debut and posted figures of 3 for 23.

The other wicket taker was Bharrat, who finished on 1 for 33.

After tea, Wanderers claimed the early wickets of Ricki Griffett (0) and Gareth Thomas (10) before the power of Rhett Jones (86) and the more measured batting of David Goodway (51 not out) took the game out of the visitors’ reach.

The target was achieved in the 26th over.

For Wanderers, Hill, with 2 for 22 was the stand out bowler.

2nd XI

The second XI made the short trip up the road to Hayes Point and came away winners by 5 wickets. Wanderers won the toss and opted to bowl.

Nathan Cuddihy removed Brooks for 4 in the 3rd over, with the score on 10.

Then Chris Barnes (65) and Paul Sawyer (47) put on superb century stand for the second wicket before Sawyer became the first of Russell Thomas’ three victims, via a Patrick Lane catch.

Lane took the wicket of Barnes three overs later, with the score on 142, having him caught by Luke Canter.

Wanderers were indebted to a spirited innings of 29 from Andy Fenton, which helped push the score up to 190 all out.

For Centurions, Thomas (3 for 36) and Cuddihy, with 2 for 21, were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, Russell Thomas (72) and Patrick Lane (28) put on 118 for the first wicket, setting a solid foundation for victory.

Then, a couple of wickets in quick succession gave the hosts some hope, but Dinesh (41 not out) and Cuddihy (11 not out) saw Sully home with three overs to spare.

Tamatham was the undoubted star for Wanderers, with 4 wickets for 47, including a remarkable three that were caught and bowled.

Sunday

On Sunday, after a couple of late withdrawals, a sadly depleted Sully side made the trip to Chepstow for a Welsh Cup tie.

Batting first, Centurions made a decent start, with Jones (22) Jake Griffett (22) and Goodway (46) all making decent contributions.

But Calum Thomas, with 10 was the only other player to trouble the scorers, as the lower order collapsed and the innings was closed on 121 all out.

For the hosts, the wickets were shared around, with Dobbie (2 for 17) posting the best figures.

In reply, Chepstow wasted no time in going for the target.

James (46 not out) and Bennet (56) saw them home in the 13th over, for the loss of only one wicket.

One to forget for Sully.
