BARRY Athletic Cricket Club travelled the short distance to Lisvane with a few players missing.

The hosts won the toss and batted first and compiled a score of 341 for 5 in their 50 overs with J. Pritchards top scoring with a 212 that included 27 fours and 6 sixes and came in 137 balls.

J Walsh scored 40 as well, although most of the bowling got hit about the fight and determination of the Barry side was brilliant.

Barry's best bowler was Zia Gehlan with 2 for 39 and it was also a day to remember for 14-year-old Wesley Baker who made his debut as wicketkeeper, taking two catches and playing outstandingly well.

In reply Barry reached 226 for 9 with Ashley Baker top scoring with 77 and Zeeshan making a rapid 38.

At one point the massive total did not look beyond reach as Barry made 60 off the first four overs.

But respectability was the order and reaching 226 gave them maximum batting points.

Sanadaji was the best bowler for Lisvane with 3 for 30.

Throughout the game, Barry showed immense pride, courage and fight and came out of the game with respectability and a lot of guts.

Barry Athletic's 2nd XI entertained Sudbrook at The Island with Sudbrook batting first and scoring 273 for 6 with Charles Heaven top scoring with 107.

Barry's best bowlers were Perera with 2 for 23 and young Sam Hopkins with 2 for 55.

In reply at one stage, Barry were 13 for 3 but some solid batting from Perera 48 and Sam Hopkins 41 not out got them to a respectable 126 all out.

This Saturday, Barry Athletic 1st XI entertain Cardiff Central at The Athletic Ground, Barry Island and the 2nd XI travel to Abergavenny.
