ON Saturday, Barry Athletic Cricket Club start the 2018 league season with a home game against Ponthir at The Athletic Ground, Barry Island.

With the weather not giving any chance of any pre-season cricket, the club are looking forward to getting their 128th season under way.

With some new players joining the fold and one or two old players coming back, the season looks like it could be a good one under the new captaincy of Billy Usswald, with renovations going on in the clubhouse with both cricket and football sections working together to make this happen, with the junior section going from strength to strength, a new influx of all-star cricketers, the future looks bright.

And with many events on the horizon during the season, this historic club looks like it will be around for many years to come.

The 1st XI are at home to Ponthir this Saturday with a 12.30pm start, while the 2nd XI travel to Monkswood for their first game, with a big Welsh Cup 1st Round game also on the horizon when on Sunday 13th May Barry will be taking on local rivals Penarth at The Athletic Ground, Barry Island.

Barry Athletic are also looking for sponsors. If you are interested, please contact club secretary Mark Rees on 07398108608 or email markrees509@hotmail.com.
