CADOXTON Barry could count themselves unfortunate after a 2-0 defeat to league leaders Cefn Cribwr last weekend, despite the hosts playing much of the second half with 10 men.

Tom Harris opened the scoring for Cefn Cribwr on 35 minutes in an end-to-end first half, before Cadoxton were hit on the break in the second period as Connor O'Connell doubled the hosts lead to seal the win.

An off the ball headbutt led to a red card for the hosts shortly after, but despite having a goal ruled out for offside, Cadoxton were unable to fight their way back into the tie.

Cefn did more of the early pressing, with CB 'keeper Stringer doing well to hold on to a fierce drive following a Walsh clearance.

Cadoxton Barry went close through Oaten's 20 yard drive, before a run down the left ended with Cefn's Ben Morgan firing into the grateful arms of Stringer.

With the game now becoming an end-to-end affair, Cefn gifted a chance to Dawson whose effort flew just over, but soon after a high ball upfield beat the CB defence to find Tom Harris, who managed to slide home from fifteen yards.

It could have been two straight after the restart, when Stringer came forward to find himself in no-man's-land with a winger bearing down. Luckily for CB the shot was way off target, keeping the deficit to the single goal at the half-time break.

An early Harris header grazed the top of the bar before Morgan brought a fine save out of the home 'keeper at his near post, as CB came fast out of the traps in the second half. Brilliant solo work from Morgan also saw him weaving the Cefn rearguard inside out, before firing a whisker wide from just outside the box.

But a home side breakaway saw them double their lead when O'Connell emerged from a scramble in the box to fire home through a number of legs from an acute angle.

Moments later however, a needless headbutt on Dawson saw the hosts reduced to 10 men and seemingly offering CB an unexpected route back into the tie.

Cadoxton Barry continued to dominate possession and a long ball from Walsh found Morgan who expertly slotted home, only to be flagged up for offside, before their afternoon was made worse still with a Cadoxton player also seeing red in the final minutes.

In the Vale of Glamorgan League Year 9s league, an excellent performance saw Cadoxton Barry beat Cowbridge Blacks 3-2. This was the first defeat of the season for the previously unbeaten Cowbridge side.
