A BARRY Island resident has taken part in the recent World Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) Championships in Denmark, representing his country in three separate events.

Kerry Baker finished 13th in the 200m sprint event, held outside Copenhagen Opera House, before also coming 25th in the SUP surfing contest and 37th in the technical race.

Both the surf event and technical contests took place in a remote fishing village in the North West of Denmark called Vorupor, with the technical race involving running on the beach, paddling out through the waves, turning around buoys and racing back through the waves to the finish line.

The surf event was badly affected by severe winds, with Baker saying he was satisfied to finish in 25th place.

The championships were the first world SUP event attended by a Welsh team, who finished in 27th out of the 42 countries who took part.
