TWO members of Wenvoe Castle Golf Club have reached the final stages in a top golf competition.

Barbara Beedham and Maria Venn have reached the grand final of The Coronation Foursomes, one of the major competitions held each year by the The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A).

The tournament is the leading event for women’s club golfers in Great Britain and Ireland and is open to all members of affiliated golf clubs. Teams compete in both local and regional qualifying until just 16 pairs emerge to play in the grand final.

Beedham and Venn won their local final, before going on to produce the top score in the regional final held at Ross on Wye Golf Club in July.

The 2017 grand final will be played on Monday, September 18, on the prestigious Eden Course at St Andrews - traditionally known as the ‘home of golf’.

The finalists will enjoy two nights at the five-star Old Course Hotel Golf Resort and Spa, and the chance to participate in the Pro-Am of the Ricoh Women’s British Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf club.

Wenvoe Castle club captain Kota Dayananda and ladies' captain Helen Hughes, on behalf of all the members at their home club, congratulated both players on their superb performance so far and wished them every success in the grand final.
