CADOXTON Barry FC made a winning return to the FAW Trophy on Saturday afternoon, in a one-sided 6-0 victory over hosts Clwb Cymric.

Entering the competition for the first time in a number of years, Cadoxton Barry took full advantage of the fact that Clwb Cymric were missing a number of first team defenders.

But that should take nothing away from the visitors, who recorded a resounding win over a side that has been a formidable force at this level of football over a number of years.

Following early Cadoxton pressure, Cymric fought their way back into the game and went close on a number of occasions to breaking the deadlock.

An important block from Morgan prevented one goal bound effort from finding the back of the net, while Walsh scrambled away another strike from just in front of the line to keep the scores level.

But after withstanding the earlier Cymric chances, it was eventually Cadoxton who took the lead.

Sansome broke free down the left before cutting into the box, only to be brought down from behind. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and it was the felled Sansome who stepped up to convert with aplomb in the 26th minute.

Oaten doubled the scoreline six minutes later, Morgan winning the ball in the middle of the park and evading three challenges to supply his teammate, who despatched well to put Cadoxton 2-0 in front.

The third goal also followed before the break, Oaten making a run down the right before crossing deep into the box.

No Cadoxton player was there to convert, but a slice of good fortune saw the defender at the far post miscontrol and bundle into his own net.

And Cadoxton nearly added a fourth on the stroke of half-time, only for Jackhontaw's long range dipping effort to fly narrowly over the bar.

Cymric came at Cadoxton Barry for a short spell at the start of the second half, with Walsh having to head clear from under the bar to prevent the hosts from grabbing a goal back.

But any Cymric hopes were ended when Cleary's long cross from left to right was brought down by Morgan, who fended off a couple of challenges to take the ball around the 'keeper and slot into the net.

Donnelly came on for Sansome and Weekley for Powell, but the changes were seamless as Cadoxton Barry continued to control the show.

Oaten added his second not long after, latching onto a perfectly weighted ball through the middle before rounding the 'keeper to make it 5-0.

And it was left to Cleary to make the afternoon's final mark on the scoreline, who after being supplied by Jackhontaw, curled the ball with the outside of his boot just inside the 'keeper's left hand post.

Cadoxton Barry now progress to the second round, which will be played next month.
