WENVOE Castle Golf Club held their Seniors Open Day and the mixed Whiteflower Cup tournaments last week.

In the mixed foursomes Whiteflower Cup competition, there were an exceptional number of entries and strong scores, with the format ensuring a close result.

In fact it was the very last pair of club president Colin Champ and his wife Sandra who clinched the trophy with an impressive 41 points. Waiting in the clubhouse for some time were the runners up Martyn Rhys and Leslie Arnold whose 39 points led until the very last moment.

Club captain Dr Dai Dayananda thanked all the couples who had entered for their support and endorsed the players’ comments that the condition of the course continues to be presented at the highest level. He also thanked the green staff for their high standards in maintaining the course to its high standards.

The winners of the Seniors Open Day were Howard Hitchcock in the 55-64 age category, MJ Lewis in the 65-69 group and Jim Card in the over 70s.

Gary Forster and Brian Close came second and third respectively in the 55-64 category, while TC Champ and Martin Rhys managed likewise in the 65-69 competition.

The over-70s, which had 72 entries, saw Brian Green finish runner-up, with R Sinden in third.
