IT WAS ANOTHER fantastic night for the Billy united and their captain Tony Mullins, the team came out on top with an impressive 7-3 victory over second placed cocopops. This result saw the Billy crowned the first league champions of the vale of Glamorgan pool league. The Billy have entertained all year and rightly deserve the top spot with

16 wins, 1 draw and only 2 defeats, both by the whitchill. A special mention has to go out to their formidable talisman Ceri Mortis who recorded yet another 8ball clearance in frame one, his sixth in total this season, this time against his friend and league stalwart and county player Mike Dunn. Not to be outshone, in form Mark Ingram played some exceptional pool in winning all his matches. In the singles clearing 5 balls and the black, making it all look so easy. The Roberts brothers Gary and Ian again made there experience and patience count on winning their matches, and have made a huge contribution to the Billy winning the league championship, with fine support from Dan Roderick and Martin Pring. Congratulations to the Billy

Over at the Borough Arms, Les Ashton and Rob Larkin both gave fine performances against the castle, ably supported by Andrew Churchill and Nick Meadows. The boro have grown into a formidable side this season, but this week they were on the losing side, the final score being 7-3 to the castle. Ralph Miners and Brian Harris the regular and constant stars of the castle notching up more winning frames, their experience is proving invaluable. The quarter finals of the scotch doubles has been completed with Mark Ingram and John Farrugia comfortably winning 3-0 against Pete Lewis and Ade Ledbetter. Over at the whitchill team mates Ian hill and Jamie Stanton beat Lawrence Klee and Geraint Randell 3-1. The leagues poster boys Ryan Rowlands and James Hill won 3-1 against Graham Avient and John Barker from cocopops. The castle was the venue for Wayne Hobson and Gavin Rowlands who beat team mates Sean Kelly and Ralph Miners also 3-1. With four outstanding pairs going thru to the semi finals. Very hard to pick a winner there.

This Thursday will see cocopops entertain the whitchill , with the runners up spot at stake,it should be a close and tense fought affair, both teams can hold theirs heads high, there's no shame in coming runners up to the Billy, the leagues best team.

With one eye on next season, the league format is changing with more points becoming available. The format will be 4 singles x 2 doubles x 4 singles x 2 doubles, with a possible 12 points to win on a Thursday. Teams next year will only need four players every week to compete.
