MORE than 200 girls took part in the Vale of Glamorgan Primary Girls Football Festival, as football once again demonstrated its increasing popularity amongst young Vale girls.

Jenner Park saw its fantastic playing surface graced by 14 schools from the Vale, and 10 from Cardiff, as a range of non-competitive matches took place throughout the day.

Organised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Sports and Play Development team, in partnership with Barry Town United Ladies FC, no scores or results were recorded throughout the matches, as the aim of the day was to create a fun and sociable environment in which the pupils could develop their skills and enjoy the games.

The Sports and Play Development team have commented on how they have seen the number of girls participating in football rise over the last academic year, something that they have been trying to achieve with their Girls on the Move scheme, which has seen glowminton and running sessions also offered to young girls across the Vale.

With Barry Town United Ladies’ chairman already saying that an encouraging number of players have been in touch since hosting their largest school event to date, the number of girls taking part in football looks set to rise even more.
