Cadoxton Barry 3 - Berry, Donnelly, Weekley

Treforest 2 - Oldman, Riley

SUSPENSIONS and illness combined to deprive Cadoxton Barry FC of four key players, but on the evidence of the first half performance you wouldn't have known it, as an early Thompson corner saw Donnelly heading just over.

Then Weekley and the returning Adams combined down the right to see the final cross once again being headed just over - this time by Thompson.

Cadoxton Barry continued to do most of the attacking but Treforest looked quite capable on the break, a free kick from the left curling just wide of the far post. Then a curling long range shot went only just wide of the right hand post.

Following this, a Cadoxton Barry defensive pass was intercepted to set-up a great opportunity for Treforest, but 'keeper Harker did well to drop on it before any damage was done.

But in general Cadoxton Barry were in charge and they emphasised the fact as they embarked on a passing move that ended in one of their best goals of the season. It came following a flowing series of passes involving Harris-Rafell, Adams and Thompson before the final cross from the right was perfectly measured for the incoming Berry to find the net with a confident finish on the 40-minute mark.

However, Cadoxton Barry once again had Harker to thank for protecting their lead into the break as he dived to push a goal bound shot around the post. But the danger wasn't over as the resulting corner looked to be curling into the net before Adamson appeared to clear the ball off the line.

Ten minutes into the second half, Cadoxton Barry doubled their lead with another fine goal as Weekly fed the ball through to Berry to the left. His cross was well placed for Donnelly to stretch and drive the ball into the opposite corner of the net.

Cadoxton Barry appeared to be cruising until Treforest tried a shot from distance that dipped to smite the home cross bar before Walsh was able to clear. This seemed to trigger a Treforest renaissance which saw the visitors negate the Cadoxton Barry lead.

Following a Cadoxton Barry attack they broke away to fire in a blinding shot. It had goal written all over it, but Harker managed to pull off a diving save of the highest quality. It didn't deserve to be in vane, but the alert Oldman was on hand to bury the ball on the rebound before Harker had time to re-adjust.

Treforest were now having the greater share of the ball, but it was from a set piece that they got their equaliser as a Riley free kick from 30 yards out on the left was beautifully weighted to dip into the far corner of Harker's net, leaving him absolutely no chance.

If there was going to be a winner Treforest now looked the more likely. Cadoxton Barry had to do a lot of defending before, in the later minutes they were once more able to assert themselves.

The winner came when Harris-Rafell took a free kick from the left. Curran back headed it, chased his own ball to head on again before Weekley drove it home from right to left.

Former Barry Town administrator, Colin Hicks, now involved with Treforest, claimed that it was offside, but from the viewpoint just behind the play, Weekley looked a good yard on.

The referee, being assessed at the time, made absolutely the right decision in awarding the goal in the 87th minute. Cadoxton Barry made some astute substitutions to hold Treforest comfortably at bay for the remaining minutes plus added time.

Next Saturday Cadoxton Barry are off to Abertridwr where they will take on local side Aber Valley in a 2.30pm kick-off.
