ON A glorious weekend there was more red hot action in the Vale of Glamorgan football league.

It was the first final of the season as division two's historic Dockers Cup took centre stage on the Sunday.

Barry Saints downed division two leaders Cadoxton Imps 5 - 2 to claim the cup at Jenner Park. Whether the cup win can inspire Barry Saints to displace Imps and claim a league and cup double remains to be seen.

Rewind 24-hours and it was an afternoon of fine football in league action.

Vale United appear to be hurtling toward their first premier division crown as they followed up a midweek 5 - 0 victory over Island Marine with a 4 - 0 home win over Tynewydd.

Rhoose matched the result with a 4 - 0 win over Masons Moving Group to stay level on points with United, however, Vale have five games in hand.

Cowbridge Town's title aspirations took a blow as they went down 2 - 1 to a resurgent Barry Athletic. Athletic followed on from their impress and shock 6 - 2 mid-week win against St Athan.

Penarth Town got their first league win in five with a massive 5 - 1 triumph against Island Marine.

In division one Barry Athletic B's title celebrations were put on ice until their last game of the season as they were defeated 1 - 0 by Cardiff Airport B.

Athletic B need a win in their final fixture against Cadoxton Barry in two weeks unless second place Barry Belgrade slip up in the meantime.

Belgrade kept up the pressure with a huge 7 - 1 victory over Cadoxton Athletic.

Dockers dominated Cadoxton Barry 4 - 0 and Cogan dispatched bottom side Glenbrook 3 - 1. Sully Sports finished up their league fixtures with a big 4 - 3 win over Pumas, Sully move third in the league, however the teams below do have games in hand.

In division two, BV made it two wins on the bounce with a 4 - 0 win over Barry Albion to stay fourth, Island Marine B kept up the pressure on BV with a 4 - 2 victory over bottom side Pumas B. Rhoose B made it one defeat in seven with a 3 - 0 win against St Athan B.

Finally, in the SWFA Intermediate Cup semi-finals. St Athan were edged out by SWFA Alliance league side Penydarren 3 - 2. St Athan came back from two goals down but were downed by a last minute winner by their opposition who play three leagues above.
