THIS Easter, a number of World and Commonwealth bowlers will grace the superb green at Barry Athletic’s 4Wood green.

On Saturday, April 15, Ellen Falkner, the triple world indoor champion and multi-medallist at the Commonwealth Games will be joined by the husband and wife stars Jamie and Natalie Chestney, also multiple winners of Commonwealth and World Gold medals.

Ellen, Jamie and Natalie will be joining with the members at Barry Athletic Bowls Club to celebrate the opening of the 4Wood green in Barry Island; the opening ceremony this year will be undertaken by the secretary of state for Wales, Alun Cairns MP, who will have the honour of casting the first bowl of the season.

The official green opening ceremony will take place at 4pm, which will be followed by refreshments and a buffet in the pavilion.

Also attending the event on Saturday as a special guest will be Barry’s own World, Commonwealth and British boxing star Lee Selby. Lee will be taking time out from the preparations for his next fight to make a special appearance at the opening event to support the club and to extend his best wishes for a successful season.

However, the day will start at about 1.30pm, when Ellen and her team of Aero bowlers will be demonstrating their skills on the green and will be available for help and advice about choosing the right bowls for your game - this session is open to members and non members so if you have ever been interested in exploring what the game of bowls is all about, this will be great opportunity to start the journey in the company of some of the world’s best bowlers and on the best green in the Vale.

The numerous health benefits of regular outdoor exercise cannot be overstated as part of a healthy lifestyle and bowls is a fun and friendly way to achieve those benefits, for all ages and all types.

This promises to be an exciting day with many members and non members in attendance and everyone is welcome to join members at the 4Wood green, home of Barry Athletic Bowls Club.
