Barry Town Ladies 7

Pontypridd Town 0

BARRY Town Ladies went into their penultimate home game of the season in fine form having won their last six league matches as they looked to continue their charge toward possible promotion from the Women’s Welsh League.

The Town were without a number of first team regulars for this encounter with Pontypridd but this gave the opportunity to manager, Adam Hewings, to rotate the squad and they didn’t disappoint with a solid display and comfortable victory.

Midfielder and captain for the day, Tracey White had a fantastic game working tirelessly and setting a great example to the rest of the team. She was also in fine form in front of the goal notching up her first hat-trick for the club with two headers from corners and a well taken shot.

The defensive line of Megan Davies, Hannah Moger, Emma Thompson and Emily Mortimore were rarely troubled as Barry spent the majority of the game camped in the Pontypridd half.

Striker, Ffion Thomas was a constant threat scoring two goals and in particular her pace often caused problems for the visitors defence.

Hungarian forward, Luca Laky has been in superb form this season firing in the goals and once again she found the net in this game with a well taken strike.

Laky has become a pivotal player for the team playing in the number nine role who is a strong and technically gifted player and enjoys bringing other players into the game. Her development over the season has seen her become one of the top strikers at this level.

The influential Naomi Coulson also gave another fine display playing down the right of midfield and she continued her goal-scoring form with a well taken strike in the second half.

To their credit, Pontypridd worked hard throughout the game spending long periods without the ball but they did force Barry goalkeeper, Davies into a fine save with her feet mid-way through the second half.

The win maintains Barry’s position at the top of the league for now, two points clear of their closest rivals, Caldicot Town who have two games in hand.

The Jenner Park based club now turn to league cup action next Sunday as they travel to play Willows Ladies from the South Wales Women’s League.
