Ferndale 41 v Sully View 10

WITH Sully View RFC having not played for a month, and then only one game in more than two months, the trip to league leaders Ferndale promised to be a hard test.

The hosts stood top of the pile with a 100 per cent record – six bonus point wins out of six league games, including the season’s opening day 26 – 10 win at Sully.

The first half was a tough and even contest, and Sully were first on the scoreboard with a Dai Harris penalty, only for Ferndale to sneak into a half-time lead with an unconverted try.

The second half turned into a disaster, and although Ferndale had two players red-carded – one for stamping and one for punching – their threequarters were clinical with all their possession, cutting the Sully defence to ribbons.

Sully View’s only consolation for all their hard work was a converted try - lock Alex Schucnik finishing off a great period of open play in which virtually the whole team was involved in a great inter-passing move, and Harris added the conversion.

The next fixture is on Saturday, January 14, and will see Sully View RFC travel to Llandrindod Wells.

The next reunion will be held at the Market Street Club on Friday, January 27, and the older members are always happy to welcome past and present players/members for an easy going social – drinking, swapping tales and even a few rugby songs.

As at every reunion so far, new faces appear, adding to the amount of friendships, and enriching the songs, stories, and memories, of the “better” times gone by.

Again the reunion will raise money for a charity, as identified by, and closely connected to, the players themselves.
